Entry to the course is open to all trainees who are medically fit to enable them to participate in all aspects of the training particularly the practical exercises.

Outline

1. EFA - ELEMENTARY FIRST AID

This Elementary First Aid course covers the mandatory competences and the required knowledge.

This requires a total of sixteen (16) instructional hours to cover the topics enumerated in Part B - Course Outline.

Training Outcomes 

To meet the minimum standard of competence for all trainees assigned to shipboard duties as required in Section A-VI/1 of the STCW Code as amended, this course is designed to enable the trainees to successfully demonstrate the competence in Elementary First Aid

Specifically, at the end of the course the trainee mustbe able totake immediate action upon encountering an accident or other medical emergency.

2. FIRE PREVENTION AND FIRE FIGHTING
This Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting course covers the mandatory competences and the required knowledge.

This requires a total of sixteen (16) instructional hours to cover the topics enumerated in Part B - Course Outline. 

Training Outcomes

To meet the minimum standard of competence for all trainees assigned to shipboard duties as required in Section A-VI/1 of the STCW Code as amended, this course is designed to enable the trainees to successfully demonstrate the competences on Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting. 

Specifically at the end of the course the trainees must be able to:

  • minimize the risk of fire and maintain a state of readiness to respond to emergency situations involving fire; and fight and extinguish fires.

3. PERSONAL SURVIVAL TECHNIQUE

This Personal Survival Techniques course covers the mandatory competences and the required knowledge, understanding and proficiencies prescribed in Section A-VI/1, Table A-VI/1-1 of the STCW Code. 

This requires a total of sixteen (16) instructional hours to cover the topics enumerated in Part B - Course Outline. 

Training Outcomes 

To meet the minimum standard of competence for all trainees assigned to shipboard duties as required in Section A-VI/1 of the STCW Code as amended, this course is designed to enable the trainees to successfully demonstrate the competence on Personal Survival Techniques

Specifically, at the end of the course the trainees must be able to survive at sea in theevent of ship abandonment.


4. PERSONAL SAFETY AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

This Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities course covers the mandatory competences and the required knowledge, understanding and proficiencies prescribed in Section A-VI/1, Table A-VI/1-4 of the STCW Code. 

This requires a total of sixteen (16) instructional hours to cover the topics enumerated in Part B - Course Outline. 

Training Outcome 

To meet the minimum standard of competence for all seafarers assigned to shipboard duties as required in Section A-VI/1 of the STCW Code as amended, this course is designed to enable the trainees to successfully demonstrate the competenceson Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities

Specifically, at the end of the course the trainee must be able to:

  • comply with emergency procedures;
  • take precautions to prevent poluution of the marine environment;
  • observe safe working practices;
  • understand orders and be understood in relation to shipboard duties; and
  • contribute to effective human relationships on board ship.
