Who should attend?

This moving and handling training course (also known as manual handling or people handling) has been designed for anyone working within an environment where there is a need for the moving and handling of people. It is ideal for anyone working within the care sector who on a daily basis who use equipment to aid in the process of manual / moving handling of people. It also covers the moving and handling of inanimate loads.

The course will cover:

  • What is manual handling?
  • Legislation - manual handling operations regulations 1992
  • Basic anatomy of the spine
  • Manual handling risk assessment
  • Ergonomics
  • Benefit/consequences of manual handling
  • Modules A-F of the All Wales Passport

By attending this manual handling course, learners will receive a great deal of information to allow them to carry out their roles within their workplaces, safely and efficiently. This qualification is recognised throughout Wales and is part if the minimum standards for CSSIW. Each learner will gain an understanding of using different pieces of equipment for the moving and handling of people.

Assessment

Throughout the course, learners will have sessions of questions & answers, alongside activities and exercises. Learners will complete a multiple choice test paper on manual handling and learners will also be assessed through the practical elements of moving & handling.

Manual Handling - Annual Refresher

In order to comply with NHS All Wales Passport standards for training in care, all staff are recommended to attend a Manual Handling All Wales Passport course EVERY YEAR.

At Menter Training we advise attendance of a Manual Handling All Wales Passport 2 day course EVERY 3 YEARS. Between these courses individuals should ANNUALLY attend a Manual Handling All Wales Passport Refresher 1 day course, ensuring that they are up to date with legislation, best-practice and techniques, and will be able to receive guidance on current service users and specific needs.

If you feel you are capable of delivering manual handling training to your staff then we can offer a cost-effective accredited course - IOSH Manual Handling of People Train the Trainer. This course will enable you to train your own staff in the Manual Handling All Wales Passport, and more so than that we shall also provide the basic learner materials for you to do so!
