Facilities Management meaningfully involves people, location, and process inside the built environment to enhance the quality of life and protection of occupants. Recently, before the outbreak of the virus, Facilities practitioners around the world thought that growth, resilience, technology, future-focused workplace plans, and regulatory enforcement will be the main drivers of change in the profession over the next decade. These drivers have been swept aside since the outbreak for at least as long as the sector has to struggle with COVID-19. New life-saving priorities of work from home (WFH), low-to-zero building occupancy, social distancing, sanitizing services, hygiene management, workplace traffic flows, common area restrictions, infrared temperature controls, hand-wash stations, low-touch-to-touchless initiatives, have taken the stead of day-to-day standards of controlling occupant capacity, office density, and circulation areas. New concerns have arisen from Facility Managers, such as: Will more space be needed for employees? Do open-plan offices replace closed offices? Will the new norm become WFH? In the meantime, everybody has done their best to keep pace with the ever-changing knowledge to battle the spread of the virus from the appropriate global and local health regulatory bodies.

The ongoing global health crisis has sharply illustrated the relevance of Facilities practice. The 2nd Facilities Management Conference is a response to the challenges put before practitioners.
