The Speciality Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE) Introduction to Coffee is designed to introduce the novice to the world of specialty coffee. At the end of the course, successful candidates should have a deeper understanding of coffee cultivation, basic roasting and the brewing process. This course is ideal for coffee enthusiasts or aspiring specialty cafe operators. It comes with a certification exam recognized by the SCAE, a non-profit membership association that has established an enormous network of coffee lovers and industry professionals across more than 90 countries worldwide.

Once just a café customer, Andre Chanco started out in a professional career with an international IT consulting firm before diving into the Specialty Coffee industry.

In 2010, he started to learn how to roast coffee in Papa Palheta, Singapore’s pioneering Specialty Coffee company. This allowed him to be fully immersed in the world of coffee from green coffee sourcing, marketing, being a barista, teaching, and eventually becoming Head Roaster.

The opportunities and the increasing interest of Specialty Coffee in the Philippines led Andre back to his home country to start Yardstick, a coffee company with two of his university classmates and friends from Singapore. Yardstick is a wholesale coffee company, a distributor of leading espresso machine brands and equipment, and an education centre focused on Specialty Coffee.

Andre is also an accredited trainer of the Speciality Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE), which allows him to professionally do what he is most passionate about—educating people about coffee. Apart from this, he spends most of his time roasting coffee and engaging with his clients and customers.

The Tutorial and Languages Department of Enderun Colleges, called The Study, started accommodating English as Second Language students in 2008. It became a vehicle for degree-bound students to develop and master their academic English skills prior to taking up regular degree courses in the college. As years have progressed, more young and adult students enrolled in the programs.
